The Last of Us Part II delayed until May 2020

October 24, 2019 by Ricky Church

It was just a few weeks ago Playstation announced the anticipated The Last of Us Part II would be released February 21, 2020, but now the sequel has hit a delay. Naughty Dog game director Neil Druckmann announced over the Playstation Blog Last of Us Part II will now be released May 29, 2020 in order to finalize some elements of the game and bring it to a satisfactory level of quality for themselves and fans.

Though the game’s big announcement, complete with a trailer and the various editions fans can pre-order, was made at the end of September, Druckmann explained on the blog “it was during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realized we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality. At this point we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time. We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.

While we’re relieved that we won’t have to compromise our vision, we’re disappointed that we weren’t able to avoid this exact situation. We wish we could’ve foreseen the amount of polish we needed, but the size and scope of this game got the better of us. We hate disappointing our fans and for that we’re sorry.”

What do you think about the delay? Are you a little disappointed or willing to wait an extra few weeks for the game? Let us know in the comments below or on our social channels @flickeringmyth…

In The Last of Us Part II, Ellie is now 19 and has found a semblance of peace and normality living in Jackson. She’s had a chance to be a teenager and forge lasting relationships. When that peace is disrupted by a violent act, Ellie is thrust into a brutal journey of retribution, fueled by a need to bring those that have wronged her to justice, pushing her to her very limits. From the way Ellie plays to the way she navigates through this hostile world, you’re going to feel her physical, emotional, and mental state expressed through every facet of gameplay.
