Superman & Lois series given full season order at The CW for 2020 premiere

January 15, 2020 by Ricky Church

It has been rumoured for a long while now, but The CW announced today that it has decided to skip the traditional pilot phase and order a full season of Superman & Lois, the next series in The CW’s Arrowverse of DC superheroes. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch will reprise their roles as Superman and Lois Lane respectively.

Hoechlin has made a few appearances on CW’s Supergirl while Tulloch made her introduction as his wife Lois Lane during last year’s annual crossover Elseworlds, where they revealed to Kara the news Lois was pregnant.  Superman & Lois will follow the two title heroes as they deal with stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

The pair recently returned to the Arrowverse for the mega-crossover Crisis on Infinite Earths, which ended last night and saw a number of major DC cameos that included Kevin Conroy as an aged Bruce Wayne, John Wesley Shipp reprising his role as The Flash from the 90s Flash series and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s Brandon Routh even reprising his Superman Returns role as the Man of Steel inspired by the graphic novel Kingdom Come.

Superman & Lois will be written and executive produced by former The Flash showrunner Todd Helbing, who stepped down last season to focus on developing the series. It will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter through Berlanti Productions alongside DC superstar writer and producer Geoff Johns.

The series is being developed for The CW’s 2020 – 21 season with the pilot planned to be filmed in the spring.
