Guardians of the Galaxy star Karen Gillan hopes Nebula can “rebuild her life” after Thanos’ death

June 8, 2020 by Liam Waddington

Karen Gillan has discussed one part of Nebula’s story she is eager to explore as her journey is set to continue in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

During a virtual panel for GalaxyCon Live (via Fandom Spotlite), Gillan reveals her hopes that Nebula can move past the abuse to reclaim and rebuild her life following the death of her abusive father Thanos (Josh Brolin) in Avengers: Endgame.

“In Avengers, she had to face the source of her abuse, then actually watch him get eliminated from her life,” Gillan said. “I’m sort of thinking about future Nebula in the sense like, ‘What is she going to be like now that that person’s abuse has gone out of her life? How is she going to build herself back up again?’ Because it’s an odd feeling, I think, for someone who’s been abused by a parent, because they still love them and they’re sad that they’re gone, but also they hate them and they’re glad that they’re gone.”

Gillan added, “I’m interested to maybe try and take her to a place now where she’s starting to rebuild her life.”

Although all plot details will be kept under wraps until director James Gunn has finished post-production on The Suicide Squad, one possibility regarding Nebula’s future in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could include her re-connecting with her sister Gamora (Zoe Saldana) as the present-day version of the character was murdered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, leaving behind past Gamora who hasn’t joined the Guardians.
