Star Wars: George Lucas named a new character in The Mandalorian season 2

November 18, 2020 by Samuel Brace

George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, has named one of The Mandalorian’s new characters for season 2.

While George Lucas doesn’t have any direct involvement in Star Wars these days, he is still interested in the franchise and has made multiple set-visits to films and shows over the years.

This includes visiting the set of The Mandalorian season two where he even named one of the show’s new characters. Apparently Lucas came up with the name of Axe Woves – one of the new Mandalorians we met in episode three along with Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves.

Axe Woves is played by Simon Kassianides, who couldn’t be more excited about his role in Star Wars. He took to Instagram to introduce his character and how Lucas came gave him his name:

“Meet Axe Woves. Mandalorian. Created by @jonfavreau and @dave.filoni Directed in episode three of season two by @brycedhoward in @themandalorian . Made to look way cooler than I am by stunt man @kofi_stunts And…according to @jonfavreau and @dave.filoni the character’s name was created on set by George Lucas himself when he visited one day 🤯”

He goes on to say what a dream come true this has all been: “To all of the kids play fighting with their star wars figures dreaming – I promise you, it’s worth believing in that dream. You just might get to live it.”

It’s great to see an actor so excited to be a part of the Star Wars universe. Hopefully, we get to see plenty more of Axe in the future, whether that be in The Mandalorian or elsewhere.

The Mandalorian season two sees Pedro Pascal (Din Djarin), Gina Carano (Cara Dune), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon) and Bill Burr (Mayfield) joined by new cast additions Temuera Morrison (Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars: The Clone Wars), Timothy Olyphant (Justified), Michael Biehn (The Terminator) and WWE Superstar Sasha Banks.

The Mandalorian season two airs on Fridays on Disney+.
