Exclusive Interview – Ricky Whittle on American Gods

March 17, 2021 by Gary Collinson

Flickering Myth’s Martin Carr chats with American Gods star Ricky Whittle in this exclusive interview…

American Gods has been breaking new ground since day one and challenging audiences in the process. Pivotal to its impact has been the presence of Ricky Whittle and his portrayal of Shadow Moon.

Adapted from Neil Gaiman’s book and brought to life initially by show runners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green, American Gods has always embraced its rich source material. Visually stunning, thematically diverse and structurally dense it remains essential viewing.

As season three draws to a close Ricky Whittle took time out to talk to Martin Carr about Shadow Moon’s evolution, what this show means to him as well as how he bonded with co-star Ian McShane in the beginning. Watch the interview here and be sure to follow us on YouTube for more exclusive interviews and videos…

“American Gods season 3 follows Shadow as he attempts to break away and assert himself as his own man, setting down roots in the idyllic snowy town of Lakeside, WI, where he’ll uncover a dark secret while exploring questions of his own divinity. Guided on this spiritual journey by the gods of his black ancestors, the Orishas, Shadow must decide exactly who he is: a god seeking veneration or a man in service of the “we.”

American Gods airs on Starz. Read our episode reviews of the series here.
