Janelle Monáe joins growing cast of Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2

May 12, 2021 by EJ Moreno

The sequel to the 2019 hit film Knives Out has begun casting, and some major stars are coming on board the latest mystery. In recent days, Edward Norton and Dave Bautista have joined Knives Out 2, and The Hollywood Reporter now notes that Janelle Monáe is joining the party.

There are very few details about Knives Out 2 at the time of reporting, but Daniel Craig’s southern detective Benoit Blanc is returning, while Johnson will also be back in the director’s chair. The movie will start shooting this summer in Greece.

Janelle Monáe, the singer and actor, has found success on the big screen in several projects. Monáe starred in two Academy Award-nominated films in Hidden Figures and Moonlight, the latter of which went on to win Best Picture. She also starred in 2020’s polarizing horror film, Antebellum.

Netflix recently won the rights for two sequels to 2019’s Knives Out, which received an Oscar nomination and scored over $300 million on a $40 million budget. Like this budding sequel, the original film featured an all-star cast that included Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, and the late Christopher Plummer.
