Gael García Bernal set for Marvel’s Werewolf By Night Disney+ Halloween Special

November 5, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

With Jack-o’-lantern’s only just beginning to wilt after this year’s Halloween, Marvel has wasted no time at all in announcing plans for a future Halloween Special starring Golden Globe winning actor Gael García Bernal.

According to The Wrap’s exclusive, Bernal’s foray into the MCU would be a werewolf-focused show, which insiders believe could be an adaptation of Marvel Comics Werewolf By Night.

The Werewolf By Night was a name given to two fictional characters – Jack Russell and Jake Gomez – during the comic’s run, and first appeared in 1972’s Marvel Spotlight #2.

The Russell incarnation of the Werewolf is a descendant of the mystically-altered offshoot of humans known as Lycanthropes, who eventually becomes capable of transforming without the need for a full moon, and retaining his human intellect while transformed. One of the most interesting aspects of this 43-issue run was that it is notable for introducing Moon Knight, a character who already has his own Oscar Isaac starring Disney+ series, which is set to debut in 2022.

The Jake Gomez Werewolf By Night was a member of the Hopi tribe, whose entire family was struck by the werewolf curse, and were subsequently targeted by a large pharmaceutical company for their extraordinary Lycan powers.

It’s not known whether either of these versions will be the basis for the show, which is hoping to go into production in early 2022, and join the likes of Secret Invasion, Moon Knight, Hawkeye, and She-Hulk on Marvel’s impressive small-screen roster.

As always, let us know what you think of Bernal’s casting and the potential for Werewolf By Night by heading to our social channels and howling about it @FlickeringMyth…
