Charlie Cox discusses Daredevil return, wants to remain involved with the MCU “for many years”

February 10, 2022 by Amie Cranswick

After a couple of years of rumour, speculation, and denials from the man himself, Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock made his official return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe this past December as the actor reprised his role from Netflix’s Daredevil for a fan-pleasing cameo in Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Speaking to Supanova Comic Con & Gaming recently, Cox opened up about returning as the Man Without Fear, as well as expressing his hopes for the character’s future.

“For years, I have been asked questions about returning as Daredevil, and the genuine truth was I 100% assumed that was gone, that ship had just sailed,” said Cox. “I didn’t hear from any of the folks at Marvel for a couple of years. It does now look like I was lying for a long time, I actually wasn’t, I was only lying for a little bit of time. You still don’t want to spoil it for people.”

“The one thing that being in the MCU allows that we couldn’t really do with the Netflix stuff, is that I can now interact with other MCU characters,” Cox continued. “Crossovers [are] the thing I would like to do next. There are some really interesting stories there that I’d love for the character to explore. I don’t want to sound greedy, but I hope I get to do loads more. I hope I get to be involved way, way more for many years. I hope it never ends. I hope it gets to the point where people are like, ‘You are too old to be playing this part.'”

As yet, there’s been no official word as to where Cox’s Daredevil may appear next, although there has been lots of talk about a potential appearance in the upcoming She-Hulk Disney+ series (with classic yellow costume, if rumours are to be believed), while another clash with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin in the Echo show seems logical. For the time being however, we shall just have to wait and see…
