Godzilla vs Kong sequel reportedly set to shoot later this year

March 21, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Godzilla vs. Kong was one of the first blockbusters to wade into the ruin of the pandemic-era cinemagoing landscape, so its global haul of $468M, despite being available day-and-date as part of Warner Media’s 2021 release strategy, was a resounding success. So it comes as no surprise that a sequel will reportedly go before the cameras before the year is out.

The announcement came from Australian government agency Screen Queensland, where the State Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said that cameras will roll later this year in locations across the Gold Coast and the southeast. Godzilla vs. Kong shot on location in Queensland, where it injected an estimated $36.5 million into the local economy, and now it seems like the warring titans will once again be heading down-under to take on another city-stomping Kaiju.

There is no word yet on whether Adam Wingard will return to orchestrate the mayhem, but in the wake of Godzilla vs. Kong‘s success it was reported that Warner Bros. were in talks with the director to become the first person to helm a second installment in the MonsterVerse following Gareth Edwards (Godzilla), Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island), and Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters).

Who would you like to see the titans face off against this time around? Would you like a Godzilla vs. Kong sequel set entirely in the Hollow Earth? Let us know what you think of this news by heading to our social channels @FlickeringMyth….
