Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey to return for Bridgerton Season 3, say they “are just getting started”

March 31, 2022 by Ricky Church

The third season of Netflix’s hit series Bridgerton will differ in one major way to the recently released second season as Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley will return as Anthony and Kate, continuing their love story.

Deadline reported the news after Ashley spoke to the outlet, revealing she and Bailey will return as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton and the recently made Viscountess Kate Bridgerton for the upcoming season and how their story “is just getting started.”

“We’re going to be back! Kate and Anthony are just getting started,” Ashley said to Deadline. “We have the amazing Jess Brownell who is taking the lead as showrunner in Season 3. In Season 2, there was a lot of push and pull between Kate and Anthony, there were complications with the family, and then they find each other towards the end. I think everything is just starting. I’d like to see Kate just let go a bit more and play more in Season 3 and kind of swim in that circle of love together. I think they both deserve it.”

Ashley went on to tease Kate’s story and what she’d like to see in the upcoming season as Kate adjusts to the life of a Viscountess. “She’s in charge of the household now and she’s got big boots to put on. I think she can do it. I want to keep that softness and vulnerability to Kate, for sure, and she can share that with Anthony. I’m just excited for her to have a home and to have a family. I’m excited to see her grow. I think I’d like to see Kate being much braver and less headstrong and more heart strong.”

While Anthony and Kate’s story may not be the central focus of Bridgerton‘s third season since every season is designed to follow another sibling in the Bridgerton family, having Bailey and Ashley reprise their roles and continuing their story is a change after season one’s lead stars Phoebe Dynevor only appeared in a few episodes of the second season in a supporting role while Regé-Jean Page declined to reprise his role at all since their characters story arcs were largely complete.

Duty, desire and scandal collide when Viscount Anthony Bridgerton decides to marry, only to meet his match in his intended bride’s headstrong big sister.

Bridgerton season 2 features a cast that includes Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Charithra Chandran, Phoebe Dynevor, Ruth Gemmell,  Claudia Jessie, Luke Thompson, Adjoa Andoh, Shelley Conn, Lorraine Ashbourne, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Florence Hunt, Martins Imhangbe, Calam Lynch, Luke Newton, Will Tilston, Polly Walker, and Rupert Young.
