Queen Victoria battles monstrous entities in Torchwood: Infidel Places

April 22, 2022 by Andrew Newton

Fans of Torchwood can today purchase a brand-new audio adventure from the Torchwood Monthly Range as Big Finish Productions announce the release of Torchwood: Infidel Places.  In this new audio drama, good old Queen Victoria is visiting Cambridge University while a monstrous entity causes problems on campus.

Starring Rowena Cooper as Queen Victoria, the founder of the Torchwood Institute, Torchwood: Infidel Places (written by Una McCormack) takes listeners to 19th century Cambridge University where something evil is up to no good.

On the eve of a historic vote for the university the evil erupts and demons run rampant while dons burst into flames.  Amongst the chaos and confusion Queen Victoria pays the university a visit to find a force from beyond reality is hunting down the university’s leading academics.  Enlisting the help of a gifted mathematician, Queen Vic’ sets out to not only save the university but also the universe.

Una McCormack, writer of Infidel Places, said: “Women students weren’t formally allowed to graduate in the nineteenth century and this kept on, unbelievably, until after the Second World War. The setting for this story is the vote in 1897 which ended in a riot by the young men voting against it. There’s not much glory to be found in this story.”

Script Editor and Producer James Goss said: “TV Torchwood never showed Queen Victoria solving satanic murder mysteries. Are Cambridge dons really being assassinated by demons? Is the universe falling into chaos? I’m delighted that Rowena Cooper has come back as Queen Victoria in Una McCormack’s witty, vicious, very angry piece of work.”

Joining Rowena Cooper is Jon Glover (Mr. Bean: The Animated Series) as pompous Vice-Chancellor Sir James Montescue, Jade Gordon (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2) as mathematician Onora Tapley, Duncan Wisbey (Hard Cell) and Sion Daniel Young (Keeping Faith).

Torchwood: Infidel Places is available now for £10.99 for  a collector’s edition CD and digital download, and £8.99 for just the digital download.
