Amazon’s Mr. and Mrs. Smith series casts Michaela Coel, John Turturro and Paul Dano

June 30, 2022 by Ricky Church

Amazon Studios has just expanded the cast for its upcoming series reboot of the action comedy Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Joining Donald Glover (Community) and Maya Erskine (PEN15) in the series is Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) and The Batman‘s John Turturro and Paul Dano.

The series is inspired by the 2005 film directed by Doug Liman and starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie which saw the pair as a married couple who were, unbeknownst to each other, rival assassins and hired to kill each other. Glover and Erskine will play the title Mr. and Mrs. Smith characters. The characters Coel, Turturro and Dano will play have not been revealed.

The Mr. and Mrs. Smith reboot was co-created by Glover and Francesca Sloane. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was originally set to star alongside Glover as Mrs. Smith, but departed the project last fall due to creative differences. Glover will executive produce with Sloane while she will also showrun the series. The project is a partnership between Amazon and New Regency, where New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer will serve as executive producers.
