Halloween Ends tracking over $50 million box office opening weekend

October 13, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Director David Gordon Green brings the curtain down on the Halloween franchise (or his Halloween trilogy, at least) this week as Universal Pictures and Blumhouse release Halloween Ends, and it seems the lure of a final showdown between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode is set to inject some life into the flagging box office.

As reported by Deadline, Halloween Ends is tracking a domestic opening weekend in the region of $50 to $60 million, which would be a huge shot in the arm for the North American box office after three weekends of just $55 million in ticket sales across every release combined.

That would also edge Ends ahead of 2021’s Halloween Kills, which debuted to $49.4 million with a day-and-date theatrical release – the same tactic employed for this latest entry which will also be available to stream on Peacock. Green’s first Halloween, the 2018 reboot/sequel, opened to a franchise high of $76.2 million.

Be sure to check back here on Flickering Myth later today for our Halloween Ends reviews…

Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell; The Hardy Boys, Virgin River), is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all.

Halloween Ends is once again directed by Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills‘ David Gordon Green from a screenplay by Green, Danny McBride, Paul Brad Logan, and Chris Bernier. Featuring in the cast are Jamie Lee Curtis as the iconic Laurie Strode, Andi Matichak as Allyson Nelson, James Jude Courtney, Nick Castle as The Shape, Rohan Campbell as Corey Cunningham, Kyle Richard as Lindsey Wallace, Michael O’Leary as Dr. Mathis, and Omar Dorsey as Sheriff Barker.

Halloween Ends in cinemas and on Peacock from October 14th, 2022.
