Reese Witherspoon developing a Goldilocks and the Three Bears movie

October 6, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Following successful producer duties on one of 2022’s summer sleeper hits Where the Crawdads Sing ($131M worldwide), Reese Witherspoon is set to stay in the woods by developing a movie adaptation of classic tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

The Hollywood Reporters reveal that Goldilocks and the Three Bears will be the the first feature film from the kids and animation division of Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Harden’s production company Hello Sunshine, and that they’ll team with Build-A-Bear Entertainment for a reimagining of the classic tale will focus on portraying the title character as a powerful female protagonist.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears is one of the most popular fairy tales in the English language. Originating in the 19th Century it originally told the menacing tale of an old woman who enters the house of three bachelor bears, before tucking into their porridge, sleeping in their beds, sitting in their chairs and breaking one, and then being chased from the home, never to be seen again.

Latter versions replaced the old woman with Goldilocks and the three male bears with Papa Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear. It’s a pretty safe bet to assume that Witherspoon’s tale will be adopting this version as its template.

Let us know whether you’re excited for another cinematic telling of an oft-told-tale, or if you wish Hollywood would come up with some original stories of their own, by heading over to our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
