Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to the big screen with Breakout

April 25, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

As we prepare to witness one of Hollywood’s biggest ever stars make his small screen debut with Netflix series FUBAR, Arnold Schwarzenegger is already preparing a big-screen comeback with action-thriller Breakout.

Following a four-year hiatus after the latest failed attempt to reboot the Terminator franchise, Deadline report that the legendary actor will team up with his Expendables 4 director Scott Waugh for Breakout.

Described as an action-thriller, Arnie will play the lead role of Terry Reynolds. When his stepson is framed and sentenced to 25 years in a foreign country, Reynolds makes a daring jailbreak to save him and must overcome an overzealous prison warden in a race against time to avoid capture and flee the country.

Written by Richard D’Ovidio, who penned Halle Berry hit The Call, and based on a story he co-created with Nicole D’Ovidio, Breakout is hoping to go before the cameras in Eastern Europe later this year.

Breakout would be Schwarzenegger’s first leading role since 2017’s little-seen plane-crash drama Aftermath.
