If you’ve seen The Flash, you know a host of cameos bring to life some of DC’s most iconic characters. Some have hated it, and some have loved it. Shockingly, we almost had more than what we saw.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, The Flash‘s director discussed the assembly cut of the project, which was over four hours. In those extra two hours, we would’ve seen even more cameos.
Director Andy Muschietti declares, “There’s a lot of things that are in the movie that are on the edit room floor, but this is really the best version of the movie” before he adds he felt the cut cameos were “interesting…some are more interesting than others.”
Producer Barbara Muschietti describes how the Chronobowl scene shifted things: “The universes start colliding, and we had a lot more characters that we all know that we had to let go because there just wasn’t the time.” Andy Muschietti adds, “That ‘hall of fame’ of great characters and actors…there’s so many, the list was endless. We had to choose. We had to pick.”
As for the confirmed cut cameos included, we’ve learned it was 1970s Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter, Marlon Brando as Jor-El, Burgess Meredith as The Penguin, and Cesar Romero as The Joker.
Grant Gustin, who played Barry Allen/The Flash, was also supposed to cameo in the film. We reported on Gustin’s cut cameo and the legacy character cameos back in April.
When asked if Muschietti would like to see another outing with The Flash, the director says, “The multiverse allows all of these different worlds to coexist and interact. And so, hopefully, yes. We don’t know yet. That’s the truth.”
The Flash is now playing in cinemas, while Muschietti has just been confirmed as the director of the upcoming DC Universe film Batman: The Brave and the Bold.
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
