Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Five and Phase Six release dates delayed

June 13, 2023 by Ricky Church

Disney has announced quite a shuffle in release dates for several of its films, but most notably the slate of Phase 5 and 6 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among the new release dates only Deadpool 3 has been moved forward in its release while most have been delayed by a few months, though the MCU’s next Avengers films The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars have been pushed back a whole year. Check out the new dates below…

Deadpool 3 will see Ryan Reynolds return as the Merc with a Mouth, this time joined by Hugh Jackman as Wolverine since last playing him in 2017’s Logan. The anticipated film, which many fans believe will introduce the X-Men and mutants to the MCU, was previously slated for November 8, 2024 but it has now been moved up by seven months with May 3, 2024 its new release date, taking what was Captain America: Brave New World‘s spot.

Captain America: Brave New World, which follows the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson becomes the new Captain America, will now come out July 26, 2024, replacing Thunderbolts in its summer spot. Thunderbolts will now be released December 20, 2024. Both films will introduce Harrison Ford to the MCU as he takes over the role of Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross from the late William Hurt.

The next film in Marvel’s new slate is Blade, which has already undergone several delays in its production including losing director Bassim Tariq last year. The film will star Mahershala Ali as Marvel’s resident vampire hunter with Lovecraft Country‘s Yann Demange now directing. Blade was first scheduled to be released this November before being pushed back to September 4, 2024, but due to its production delays, hampered even more by the ongoing WGA strike, the film has been pushed back yet again to February 14, 2025 as it takes Fantastic Four‘s release date.

One of the MCU’s most anticipated films in its new slate has been Fantastic Four, a fresh reboot from the 2000’s duology and the 2015 reboot that will bring Marvel’s first family into the MCU. The film is searching for its cast now with several actors rumoured for the roles and WandaVision‘s Matt Shakman directing. Previously slated for February 14, 2025 it has now been pushed back three months to replace Avengers: The Kang Dynasty on May 2, 2025.

Out of all the delays, the next Avengers films are the most lengthy by being pushed back a whole year. The two films are expected to be the conclusion to The Multiverse Saga which began in WandaVision and has seen the Marvel films and Disney+ series, most prominently Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home, What If…?, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, explore the vast multiverse with Jonathan Majors being the new big bad as Kang The Conqueror. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be released on May 1, 2026 while Avengers: Secret Wars will now be released May 7, 2027.

There is no word at the moment on how this shuffle could affect the future of Marvel’s series on Disney+ which include Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Vision Quest and further What If…? seasons.
