David Harbour drops first info on DC Studios’ Creature Commandos

August 10, 2023 by EJ Moreno

David Harbour played Santa, and now he’s playing another of pop culture’s most iconic characters, Frankenstein’s Monster.

This role comes in James Gunn’s Creature Commandos, a new DC superhero team-up show with a horror-inspired twist, and Harbour recently opened up about the project and his role.

In an interview with Collider conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike for Gran Turismo, the actor dove into what little he knows about the mysterious project. He tells the outlet:

“I didn’t know what it was when it was sent to me; I met with James, and he sort of laid out a lot of stuff. It’s really exciting. He considers it some of the best stuff he’s ever written. It’s hilarious, and the character is great. I think it’s been announced that it’s Frankenstein, and it’s a very colorful, terrific character. So, yeah, we’ve started to shoot stuff. I’m not one to really break, but during this, it is wildly funny stuff. So, yeah, we’re shooting. It’s hilarious, and I can’t wait for people to see it.”

All we know about Creature Commandos is the series will follow a team of heroes based on classic monsters. Along with David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein, the series will feature the voice talents of Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma as The Bride, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Sean Gunn as G.I. Robot and Weasel, with Steve Agee reprising his role as John Economos.

As previously reported, the Creature Commandos team works under the supervision of Amanda Waller. Viola Davis will return to voice Waller, but Agee’s John Economos will serve as her eyes and ears for this horror-based team. The Creature Commandos project is reportedly one of the “central pieces of the new DCU’s Gods and Monsters arc,” with the seven-episode show leading to future live-action appearances from the team of monsters featuring their voice actors in live-action versions.

Along with a DC Universe debut in Creature Commandos, David Harbour is set to reprise his MCU role as Red Guardian in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, slated for release in 2024.
