Talk To Me filmmakers gearing up for prequel and sequel

August 4, 2023 by EJ Moreno

The Philippou Bros (Danny and Michael) have a horror hit on their hands with the A24 film Talk To Me. With a reported $4.5 million production budget, Talk To Me has already made $10 million at the box office, and the Philippou Brothers have plans to turn this into the next horror franchise.

In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, it seems like a prequel and a sequel are in our future. For the prequel, the filmmakers are looking at something in the world of the ‘screen life’ genre of films. Think of films like Unfriended, Host, and Searching in terms of the type of film that will take place entirely across computer screens and smartphones.

“We actually shot an entire Duckett prequel already. It’s told entirely through the perspective of mobile phones and social media, so maybe down the line, we can release that,” says Danny Philippou.

As noted, the prequel will follow the previous owner of the cursed hand Duckett (Sunny Johnson), which we were introduced to in the film’s cold opening.

He also notes that a sequel is happening as well, adding, “While writing the first film, you can’t help but write scenes for a second film. So there are so many scenes. The mythology was so thick, and if A24 gave us the opportunity, we wouldn’t be able to resist. I feel like we’d jump at it.”

When a group of friends discover how to conjure spirits using an embalmed hand, they become hooked on the new thrill, until one of them goes too far and unleashes terrifying supernatural forces.

Featuring in the cast of Talk to Me are Sophie Wilde, Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Zoe Terakes, and Chris Alosio.

Talk to Me is currently in cinemas.
