The Mandalorian, WandaVision and Loki to receive physical releases on 4K Ultra HD

August 23, 2023 by Ricky Church

In a move to delight fans, Disney has announced it will be releasing the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, the first season of Loki and the WandaVision miniseries on 4K UHD and Blu-ray this fall and winter.

Ever since the mega-company started Disney+ it has been notorious for keeping its original series and films on the streaming service, lessening its home media output across the board and even removing a few series off Disney+ altogether. Now something seems to have shifted in the company’s mindset as The Mandalorian, WandaVision and Loki will be arriving in people’s homes on physical discs and steelbooks with brand-new box art designed by popular artist Attila Szarka and collectible concept art cards included.

Loki will be the first to arrive with a September 26th release date. The series saw Tom Hiddelston return as Thor’s brother and the God of Mischief Loki and followed the alternate-timeline Loki seen in Avengers: Endgame after his escape and joining the Time Variance Authority as someone is threatening the timeline’s existence. Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino and Gugu Mbatha-Raw also starred and will be returning for the show’s second season on October 6th.

Next up is WandaVision on November 28th. WandaVision launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a new age as the first Marvel series on Disney+ and began Phase 4 of the franchise. The series saw Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany reprise their roles as Wanda/Scarlet Witch and Vision as they and the residents of their new hometown live through decades and genres of various TV homages. Starring alongside the pair were Kathryn Hahn, Teyonah Parris, Julian Hilliard, Jett Klyne and Even Peters with Kat Dennings and Randall Park reprising their MCU roles as Darcy Lewis and FBI agent Jimmy Woo.

Lastly and not least is the Star Wars series The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars TV show and what many consider to be Disney+’s flagship series as it launched the streaming service. Seasons 1 and 2 will both arrive in separate collections just in time for the holidays on December 12th. The series stars Pedro Pascal as bounty hunter Din Djarin as his life is changed after a seemingly routine bounty and helped connect the Star Wars films and animated series to its live-action series which will only grow with this week’s premiere of Ahsoka. Carl Weathers, Katee Sackhoff, Giancarlo Eposito and Emily Swallow also feature in the series.

There is no word yet on whether the 4K and Blu-ray releases will contain any additional material such as the Assembled or Gallery specials that take audiences behind the scenes of the series’ production. Fans can pre-order the seasons beginning August 28th. We’ll have to wait and see if other Disney+ series, whether Star Wars or Marvel-related, will get the home media treatment next.
