María Gabriela De Faría joins Superman: Legacy as villain The Engineer

November 16, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Superman is gearing up to face quite a few foes in his new DC Studios re-debut, and it seems like his latest villain could be a tough fight.

In a new report from Deadline, it has been revealed that James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy has cast María Gabriela De Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer.

Created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch, this version of the character was first introduced in The Authority #1 in 1999. Comic book fans would know that she’s the second DC character to bear the name of The Engineer.

María Gabriela De Faría is best known for her roles in Deadly Class, Animal Control and The Moodys, but she will see Superman: Legacy as her biggest mainstream outing. She’ll face off with the fresh-faced David Corenswet as Superman and will be part of the villainous group The Authority.

Superman: Legacy is gearing up to begin production any day, with the Hollywood strikes over and Gunn confirming the film will still make its July 2025 release date.

The official synopsis for Superman: Legacy states that the film “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, and

Superman: Legacy will be released on July 11th, 2025.
