Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire getting a one week theatrical release

November 8, 2023 by Ricky Church

Zack Snyder’s sci-fi epic Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire is only a couple months away from being released on Netflix, but the streamer has announced a limited theatrical release of the film exclusively on 70mm screens in select cities one week prior to its arrival on Netflix.

Rebel Moon will play at the Egyptian Theatre in Los Angeles, the Paris Theatre in New York City, TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto and Prince Charles Cinema in London. The film will run in these theatres from December 15th – 21st, where it will premiere on Netflix the day after on December 22nd.

Rebel Moon is a two-part film Snyder developed under his deal with Netflix, where he has already made the zombie-heist film Army of the Dead. Snyder’s work with Netflix is said to expand both into sprawling franchises, something partially done with Army of the Dead as he produced the prequel Army of Thieves as well as an anime prequel Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas which was apparently cancelled during production. Snyder is also already working on a director’s cut for Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire as well.

With the first part of Rebel Moon getting a theatrical release, it is likely the upcoming second part Rebel Moon: The Scargiver will also be released in a limited theatrical run prior to its premiere on Netflix in April.

When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival. Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.

The cast of Rebel Moon includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Anthony Hopkins, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Alfonso Herrera, Ed Skrein, Cleopatra Coleman, Fra Fee, Rhian Rees, Jena Malone, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, Sky Yang, and Staz Nair.

Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire streams on Netflix from December 22nd, 2023, while Part 2: The Scargiver is released on April 19th, 2024
