My Hero Academia live-action movie still in the works at Netflix

December 11, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Are you excited for Netflix to tackle yet another live-action anime adaptation? Well, fear not, as My Hero Academia is still in the works.

In December 2022, we reported that Netflix wanted a movie version of the iconic anime and manga, but radio silence has been silent since that initial report. One of the names attached to it was Joby Harold, but he’s been busy with projects like Obi-Wan Kenobi and the recent kaiju series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.

While promoting the Apple TV+ series, Harold was pressed about the My Hero project and gave fans a positive update.

When Collider asks about the validity of the original report and if he’s involved, the filmmaker confirms the news and hints at his excitement.

Harold tells the outlet, “Yes, it is [real]. Absolutely. It is something I’m working on and loving working on. I’m excited to do it and get it out there. It’s a big one. I can speak to the fact that it is live-action, and I think that’s probably all I can speak to, but it’s a big deal in my life. I’m really enjoying it. It’s amazing. It’s an amazing opportunity, and I’m really excited about it.”

The anime has proven remarkably popular, with the series already spawning a few films that have become box-office successes. My Hero Academia is soon approaching its seventh season as well.

We reviewed the third animated film, My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission, and interviewed two English voice actors; you can watch here…

The seventh season of the anime adaptation of Kōhei Horikoshi’s manga will premiere in the spring of 2024.
