Netflix developing two Peaky Blinders spin-off series

December 18, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Peaky Blinders may have ended its critically-acclaimed six season run in 2022, but there’s plenty of history still to be mined from 20th Century Birmingham, and that’s exactly what Netflix plan to do with not one, but two spin-off shows.

According to Bloomberg Netflix are looking to expand the universes of their small screen properties, and that includes the BBC-produced, Cillian Murphy-led crime-drama.

There are reportedly two series in development. One of those would be set in Boston during the middle of the 20th century, a couple decades after the events of the original series, while another would focus on Polly, the matriarch of the criminal Shelby clan, played by the late Helen McCrory.

The award-winning show premiered in 2013 and follows the rise of the Peaky Blinders gang led by Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) during the first half of the 20th Century in Birmingham, England. The ensemble cast has included the likes of Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Sam Neill, Annabelle Wallis, Iddo Goldberg, Tom Hardy, Charlotte Riley, Finn Cole, Natasha O’Keeffe, Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, Anya Taylor-Joy, Sam Claflin, Amber Anderson, James Frecheville, and Stephen Graham.

Creator Steven Knight is currently putting the finishing touches on the script for a Peaky Blinders movie, with filming set to begin in 2024.
