Wolf Man reimagining loses Ryan Gosling, gains Christopher Abbott

December 14, 2023 by EJ Moreno

Blumhouse and Universal are gearing up for a new take on The Wolf Man story, and director Leigh Whannell is reworking his casting.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that actor Ryan Gosling will step away from the project, though he’ll keep an executive producer credit. Christopher Abbott, one of the rising stars on the independent movie scene, is stepping into the lead role.

Fresh off his recent turn in Poor Things, Abbott is a go-to leading man if an indie movie wants to gain credibility. He’s appeared in must-see projects like It Comes At Night, Black Bear, and Possessor. This marks the first collaboration between Whannell and Abbott.

Per THR, the script was written by Whannell and Corbett Tuck, Lauren Schuker Blum, and Rebecca Angelo. Jason Blum is producing the film. This is the second Universal Monster-inspired film from Whannell & Blumhouse, following The Invisible Man in 2020.

As for the plot of this new Wolf Man project, little is known, but the outlet reports, “the mysterious story is now focused on a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.”

It’s reported that the movie is ” now moving faster” and is set for release on Oct. 25, 2024.
