The Batman Part II delayed a full year into 2026

March 12, 2024 by Ricky Church

History is repeating itself somewhat as Warner Bros. has announced that Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II has been delayed a fully year from October 2025 to October 2026.

The Batman similarly suffered from several release date shifts, mostly due to production delays and shutdowns during the pandemic, before settling on a March 4th, 2022 release. The film starred Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred.

The Batman Part II‘s new release date is now October 2nd, 2026, pretty much a year to the day of its previous date. Little is known about the plot of the sequel, but rumours have suggested we will see more of Barry Keoghan as The Joker, who we only saw in a dimly lit cameo at the end of The Batman as well as a deleted scene.

Not much is known about why The Batman Part II has been delayed, but it is likely due to the continued impact of last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes as well as James Gunn and Peter Safran’s plans for DC Studios.

Though we’ll have a longer wait for the sequel, Reeves’ The Batman universe is still going to grow as Max’s The Penguin will premiere this fall with Farrell reprising his role. That series will bridge the gap between The Batman and Part II, showing Penguin’s battle to take control of Gotham’s underworld in the power vacuum left from the first film’s conclusion.

The Batman Part II will be released October 2, 2026.
