Adam Wingard to direct Robert Kirkman’s Hardcore for Universal

May 24, 2021 by Matt Rodgers

Fresh from the box office rejuvenating success of Godzilla vs. Kong, Adam Wingard has been tapped to adapt Robert Kirkman comic Hardcore for Universal Pictures.

According to Deadline, the Death Note and Blair Witch director will work from a story outline written by The Walking Dead‘s Kirkman, and is based on the Skybound/Image comic book series created by Kirkman and Marc Silvestri.

As per the Image Comics synopsis, Hardcore is an action/sci-fi thriller following a soldier’s journey as he saves the world without getting his hands dirty. Imagine being able to take over the body of anyone on Earth. Sound crazy? Not for Agent Drake and the Hardcore Program. They can turn any person into a human drone to get to targets that normal soldiers can’t. Drake is the best soldier Hardcore has to offer. But when he gets stranded in a body with only 72 hours to discover who’s hijacked the Program, he’ll have to pull out all the stops against an enemy who could be literally anyone.

Wingard has a lot on his plate at the moment, having been linked with a further MonsterVerse movie following the success of Godzilla vs. Kong, as well as working on a sequel to John Woo’s 1997 action-classic Face/Off.

Have you read Hardcore? Are you excited at the prospect of Wingard adapting another comic book after Death Note? Let us know what you think of this news by heading to our socials @FlickeringMyth…
