Alden Ehrenreich didn’t know what to do when he heard he’d been cast as Han in Solo: A Star Wars Story

September 12, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Alden Ehrenreich, the actor behind Han in this year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, has recalled his reaction upon being cast in the movie.

There’s no question that despite the film not performing as well as anyone hoped, Alden Ehrenreich’s casting in Solo was the biggest moment of his career. Any role in a Star Wars movie is a big deal but to step into Harrison Ford’s shoes to play a young Han Solo? It doesn’t get much bigger than that.

But how did Ehrenreich feel when he was initially cast? Well, he didn’t quite know what to make of the situation, telling Fandango:

“I got the call, I was just on the street, and I called my family, I told them, but, all my friends, I couldn’t tell anyone really, it wasn’t even going to be announced for three months. And so I didn’t know what to do, but I felt I should do something. So I went to the beach by myself and walked around and there was the pier there so I went to the pier and I said, ‘I guess I’ll ride a ride,’ so I just rode a rollercoaster by myself.”

Donald Glover then added: “That’s the most ‘Alden’ answer I’ve ever heard.”

The gravity of the situation was obviously quite clear to the young actor, and although there likely won’t be a sequel to Solo, most seem to agree that Ehrenreich was a success in the famous role.
