Alex Garland doubts that 28 Months Later will ever happen

February 12, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

With Annihilation set to debut on Netflix next month, Ex-Machina director Alex Garland has taken part in an Ask Me Anything Q&A on Reddit, where he was asked the question about the possibility of a further film in the 28 Days/Weeks Later franchise.

Garland wrote the 2002 original, which was directed by Danny Boyle, and then acted as executive producer on the well-received 2007 sequel. A third film, following the Gregorian calendar evolution of titles, was rumoured to be called 28 Months Later, but with almost a decade between films, and with Garland successfully transitioning behind the camera, he has now confirmed that it probably won’t happen.

Asked if he had “any plans for another 28 days/weeks/months/years movie?” Garland responded with “kind of”, which suggests he had ideas, but then punctuated it with “but doubt it will ever happen”.
