Alvin and the Chipmunks 4 (yes, 4) finds a director

December 19, 2014 by admin

Having grossed over $1 billion around the world, it should come as no surprise that New Regency are looking to get Alvin and the Chipmunks back up on screen for a fourth outing. And now it seems as though they have a director.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Becker has been hired to direct Alvin and the Chipmunks 4. The latest version of the script has been written by Adam Sztykiel, who has previously penned Made of Honor and Due Date. An earlier draft was penned by Randi Mayem Singer (Mrs. Doubtfire).

It is unknown if Justin Long (Tusk), Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds) or Jesse McCartney (Tinker Bell and the Pirate Fairy) will return to provide their voices as Alvin, Simon and Theodore or if Jason Lee (Mallrats) will reprise his role as Dave.

The first Alvin and the Chipmunks movie was released in 2009 and grossed $361 million worldwide, while Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel took in $443 million. The last entry Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, released in 2011, took the lowest of the trilogy with $342 million.

Walt Becker made his directorial debut with Van Wilder: Party Liaison and has also helmed Buying the Cow and Wild Hogs. His last movie was 2009’s Old Dogs.
