Amazon developing female superhero series Deadtown

December 11, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Deadline is reporting that Amazon Studios has tapped Shauna Cross (Whip It, Bad Santa 2) to develop Deadtown, a TV adaptation of Catherynne M. Valente’s 2017 superhero novella The Refrigerator Monologues.

Deadtown will follow five recently-dead women who meet in the eponymous Deadtown, a purgatory where they come to discover that their entire lives – and deaths – were in service to the superhero men they happened to cross paths with. As they begin to discover their own powers, they set out to tell their own sides of the narrative.

The pilot, which is being produced by Entertainment One and Grey Matter Entertainment, aims to create “an original superhero universe set in the modern era with an underlying theme of female empowerment.” Cross and Valente will serve as executive producers alongside Lawrence Grey, Ben Everard and Cliff Roberts.
