Originally meant to end with three movies, Game of Thrones will finally march onto the big-screen, with Andor scribe Beau Willimon onboard as writer.
Per Deadline’s report the Game of Thrones movie will reportedly focus on Aegon I, the first Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, who spawned the Targaryen dynasty, the royal family at the heart of the George R.R. Martin created world. This would be the first time that the character of Aegon I has been brought to life on screen.
Word emerged from Westeros a couple of years back that a feature film was in development, and in that time the Game of Thrones brand has gone from strength-to-strength with critically acclaimed shows House of the Dragon and recent small-screen success story A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Beau Willimon’s most recent critically-acclaimed credit was on Star Wars spin-off Andor, but he also created Netflix’s House of Cards, exec-produced Severance, and has a feature-film CV that includes The Ides of March and Mary Queen of Scots.
Created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Game of Thrones was water-cooler event television that ran for eight seasons between 2011-2019, which at its height drew 19.3 million US viewers across linear TV and streaming platforms, so there’s little surprise that Warner Bros. are keen to bring the Known World to the cinema screen.
