Andrew Garfield to produce and star in journalist drama Black Lion

March 28, 2017 by Ricky Church

Former Spider-Man Andrew Garfield has landed a new role in the film Black Lion, which is being produced by Stay Gold Features from a script by Alessandro Camon, co-writer of The Messenger. Garfield will produce alongside Stay Gold’s Daniela Taplin Lundberg and Rupert Fowler.

Black Lion will tell the true story of Carlos Mavroleon, an English/Greek heir to a shipping empire who shifted into a career in journalism. He was known for taking on daring assignments as he reported on battlefields all over the world. Black Lion will focus on his final assignment where he sneaked into Afghanistan’s tribal territories after President Bill Clinton’s 1998 missile strikes against Osama Bin Ladin and his forces in the region. Mavroleon was one of the first to discover a link between Pakistan and the Taliban, but days after his discovery he was found dead in his motel room.

Garfield recently starred in Mel Gibson’s Hacksaw Ridge and Martin Scoresese’s Silence.
