Andy Samberg and Jean Smart to star in cryogenic rom-com 42.6 Years

February 8, 2023 by Matt Rodgers

Following one of the best romantic-comedies in years with 2020’s Palm Springs, Andy Samberg is set to play with time once again as he teams up with Jean Smart for Amazon Studios’ science-fiction romance 42.6 Years.

According to Entertainment Weekly Samberg and Smart will play ex-lovers who’re separated by time when he undergoes an experimental procedure to be cryogenically frozen. When he awakens 42.6 Years later, the only person he can turn to is his now much older ex-girlfriend.

Seth Reiss, co-writer of The Menu has inked the script from a story he wrote with Samberg. I, Tonya‘s Craig Gillespie will direct 42.6 Years, and co-produce the film along with Samberg and Ali Bell of Party Over Here, Samberg’s own production company.

Jean Smart is coming off the back of her second consecutive Emmy win for Hacks, and if Samberg can imbue 42.6 Years with the same level of charm as he did with Palm Springs, then this has the potential to be something special.
