Angelina Jolie and Charlie Plummer are set to lead Sunny, a mob thriller from Tokyo Vice director Eva Sørhaug, per Deadline.
Sunny will follow “a female gangster who fights to protect her sons — and herself — from an abusive drug kingpin. But when a devastating event occurs, she only has a matter of hours to plot their permanent escape.”
The script was written by William Day Frank (Fixation) from a story he and Sørhaug developed. The film will be produced by Gramercy Park Media, A High Standard and Nickel City Pictures, with Jolie also serving as a producer.
Nickel City’s Mark Fasano, who is producing for the production company, said Jolie is “a tour-de-force” and added “people are going to be shocked by what she brings with this riveting character. This violent world that Eva and Angelina have crafted is grounded in survival and family led by a mother doing anything and everything within her power to protect her two boys.”
“Angelina has made this role uniquely her own,” said Gramercy’s Nathan Klingher. “Strong, character-driven thrillers like this are rare, and the attention to detail that she and Eva have brought to the film is impressive to watch.”
Jolie’s upcoming films include Couture and Anxious People while Plummer is fresh off Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Long Walk.
