Angelina Jolie is getting back into action as THR reports that the star is set to reunite with her Mr. and Mrs. Smith director Doug Liman for the spy thriller The Initiative.
Scripted by F. Scott Frazier (xXx: Return of Xander Cage), The Initiative is described as “Training Day set in the world of spycraft” and will see Jolie taking on the role of Bright, a route spy mater “who works outside the lines (because sometimes you need someone bad to bring down people who are even worse, as the movies have taught us). When a new agent named Charlie joins Bright’s team, he soon finds himself in situations where he isn’t sure whether his new boss is trying to kill him or simply is willing to do whatever is necessary to protect the free world.”
With Jolie on board, it is expected that the project will be fast-tracked for production in Q1 2026 and will see the Oscar-winning actress reuniting with producer Joe Roth of RK Films following their work on Disney’s Maleficent and its sequel Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. Expect further casting news soon.
Jolie is coming her off Golden-Globe-nominated role as Maria Callas in last year’s biopic Maria, her first film since taking an acting break following Marvel’s Eternals in 2021. 2024 was also a busy year for Liman, with the release of Prime Video’s Road House remake starring Jake Gyllenhaal, along with Apple TV+’s The Instigators with Matt Damon and Casey Affleck.
