Annaleigh Ashford and Dennis Quaid star in trailer for serial killer thriller Happy Face

January 27, 2025 by Ricky Church

Paramount+ has released a teaser trailer for Happy Face, an upcoming mystery drama based on a true story of a daughter coming to terms with the horrific truth that her father was a serial killer. The series sees Annaleigh Ashford (Hold Your Breath) facing off against her imprisoned father, played by Dennis Quaid (The Substance), and investigates a murder of his someone else might have been blamed for.

Happy Face is based off the life story of Melissa Moore, who at 15 discovered her father was a serial killer known as Happy Face. She dedicated a podcast the series is named after to discussing how this affected the lives of not only herself but of his victims’ families and wrote her autobiography Shattered Silence with M. Bridget Cook.

The series follows Melissa (Ashford) and her incarcerated father, known as the Happy Face Killer (Quaid). After decades of no contact, he finally finds a way to force himself back into his daughter’s life. In a race against the clock, Melissa must find out if an innocent man is going to be put to death for a crime her father committed. Throughout, she discovers the impact her father had on his victims’ families and must face a reckoning of her own identity.

Also starring in Happy Face are James Wolk (Tell Me A Story), Tamera Tomakili (Opus), Khiyla Aynne (Nightbooks) and Benjamin Mackey (Gaslit). Check out the posters and watch the teaser below…

Jennifer Cacicio (Your Honor) is serving as executive producer and showrunner on the series with Michael Showalter directing the first episode. Also executive producing is Moore, Showalter, Robert and Michelle King, Liz Glotzer, Conal Byrne, Will Pearson and Jordana Mollick. CBS Studios, iHeartPodcasts, Semi-Formal Productions and King Size Productions are producing Happy Face with Paramount distributing it globally.

Happy Face will premiere with two episodes on March 20th.
