Anne Hathaway confirms role in The Sesame Street Movie

May 11, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Back in December it was announced that Anne Hathaway was wanted for a role in The Sesame Street Movie, and now the Oscar-winning actress has confirmed to USA Today that she will be appearing alongside Big Bird, Elmo and company in the 2021 Warner Bros. feature.

“I’ll play a Muppet-y human living among Muppets, so this is not a stretch for me,” said Hathaway, who can currently be seen in cinemas alongside Rebel Wilson in The Hustle [read our reviews here and here]. “They are the most adorable, heart-melting little people, or Muppet people … or beings. I’m really looking forward to it.”

Hathaway has previously appeared on Sesame Street back in 2009 where she sang ‘I Want a Snuffy for Christmas’ alongside Big Bird and Mr. Snuffleupagus.

The Sesame Street Movie is being directed by Portlandia co-creator Jonathan Krisel and will reportedly take inspiration from the TV show’s iconic theme tune, with the characters having to find their way back to Sesame Street after becoming lost in New York City.
