Annie Parisse joins Al Pacino in HBO’s Joe Paterno film

July 13, 2017 by Ricky Church

Vinyl actress Annie Parisse is set to make a return to HBO for the as-yet-untitled film about Joe Paterno and the Penn State sexual abuse scandal.

Directed by Barry Levinson, the film sees legendary football coach Joe Paterno (Al Pacino), who is considered to be the most successful coach in college football history, embroiled in Penn State’s Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal, challenging his legacy and forcing him to face questions of institutional failure on behalf of the victims.

Parisse will play Mary Kay Paterno, Joe Paterno’s daughter. She joins Riley Keough, Greg Grunberg and Kathy Baker in the film’s cast. Grunberg will play Paterno’s son, Scott, while Baker will portray his wife Sue Paterno. Keough, meanwhile will portray Sara Ganim, the young journalist who first reported on the Sandusky scandal and later won a Pulitzer Prize for her work.

Levinson will direct and executive produce the film with Jason Sosnoff and Tom Fontana. The script was written by Debora Cahn, John C. Richards and David McKenna and the movie will be produced in association with Sony Pictures Television.
