Another new “Retro” machine arrives! Welcome the ZX Spectrum Next

May 1, 2016 by Villordsutch

New “Retro” machines currently seem to be appearing from all corners! We’ve already had the Sinclair ZX Spectrum Vega, the Recreated ZX Spectrum also we have incoming the new Vega+ along with The 64. Well now something else has appeared on the horizon and it looks rather beautiful.

Titled the ZX Spectrum Next, this machine looks the hard-shelled ZX Spectrum 48k+ drawn by at Audi concept car designer.  Promising to be “a reimplementation of the original at hardware level”, this machine will run all the software currently available both old and new – and not only this, but they are going to make it compatible with most expansions made for the original ZX Spectrum.

Not stuck within the past however, SpecNext Ltd. are making sure this new machine will be packed with the bells and whistles that will keep the modern user happy, so you’ll be seeing: more memory, new video modes, SD storage, HDMI output and this has just been revealed in the opening blurb.  The creators will be making sure that this machine will be totally open source, allowing the community to continue the machine’s evolution.

If you want to keep upto date on the ZX Spectrum Next you can register for more news at their official website here, also check out their Facebook page.
