Ant-Man and the Wasp’s Laurence Fishburne would like to “suit up” as Goliath

July 11, 2018 by Samuel Brace

Laurence Fishburne, one of the stars of Ant-Man and the Wasp, has said that he would like to suit up as his character Goliath one day.

Just because you’re playing a superhero in 2018 doesn’t mean you get to sport an awesome looking costume straight from the comics. While many characters have faithful renditions of their costumes on screen, it’s not a given that you’ll get to suit up in your first outing.

Laurence Fishburne plays the character Bill Foster, aka Goliath, in Ant-Man and the Wasp, a character who has the ability to increase his size much like the original Ant-Man.

Fishburne, unfortunately, didn’t get to suit up in the movie, but the actor is hoping that will come at some point: “If it happens, if I get to suit up, great. If I don’t get to suit up, at least I’m in the MCU,” he told Den of Geek.

Fishburne also spoke about not being all that familiar with the world of Ant-Man, although he has been reading comics since he was a kid: “I was not familiar with Bill Foster, ’cause I wasn’t an Ant-Man reader. I was into Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, Avengers, Hulk, Iron Fist; I was in that world. Ant-Man, I never really got to, but Bill Foster’s a cool character.

“I knew some of the story of Ant-Man. I knew, for example, I knew who Hank Pym was. I knew about the Pym Particles, and I knew about Janet van Dyne and Wasp. But I wasn’t a reader of those books. I did know who they were peripherally just because I read all the other books. But I thought it was such a great gift. It’s a beautiful character. It’s a beautiful way for me to enter into the universe.”

It’s always nice to hear that an actor is super passionate about being involved in a film or franchise and not just feigning interest in currently popular trends like superhero movies.

Would you like to see Fishburne suit up as Goliath one day?

From the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes Ant-Man and The Wasp, a new chapter featuring heroes with the astonishing ability to shrink. In the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, Scott Lang grapples with the consequences of his choices as both a super hero and a father. As he struggles to rebalance his life with his responsibilities as Ant-Man, he’s confronted by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym with an urgent new mission. Scott must once again put on the suit and learn to fight alongside the Wasp as the team works together to uncover secrets from the past.

Ant-Man and the Wasp sees Peyton Reed returning to the director’s chair and stars Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Evangeline Lilly (Hope Van Dyne), Michael Douglas (Hank Pym), Michael Pena (Luis), David Dastmalchian (Kurt), Abby Ryder Fortson (Cassie Lang), Judy Greer (Maggie), Bobby Cannavale (Paxton) and T.I. (Dave), while new additions to the cast include Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Van Dyne, Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster/Goliath, Hannah John-Kamen as The Ghost, Walton Goggins as Sonny Burch and Randall Park as Jimmy Woo.
