James Wan, director of Aquaman, has revealed that he is slightly “worried” about going head to head with Mary Poppins Returns at the box office.
With no Star Wars movie available to dominate the box office this December, one would think there would be a little less competition for your money. However, with both Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns arriving in cinemas next month (December 21st and Dec 19th respectively), this is certainly not the case.
Will Mary Poppins Returns, a film that is highly anticipated in certain circles, do any significant damage to DC’s Aquaman at the box office? Well, James Wan, director of Aquaman, is certainly wary of the threat. Speaking to EW, Wan said:
“For sure, I think I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried. But generally around the holidays, there’s a lot to go around — which was pointed out to us when Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle opened on top of each other. You see how well Jumanji played.”
We will have to see how it all shakes out in the end but it will be interesting to keep an eye on. Do you think Aquaman has anything to worry about?

Aquaman is directed by James Wan (The Conjuring) and stars Jason Momoa as the titular hero, reprising his role from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, along with Amber Heard as Mera, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, Ludi Lin as Murk, Michael Beach as Jesse Kane, Djimon Hounsou as the Fisherman King, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Otis Dhanji as a young Arthur Curry, Julie Andrews as Karathen and Graham McTavish in an as-yet-unrevealed role. It is set for release on December 14th in the UK and December 21st in North America.
