Ari Aster and Joaquin Phoenix begin prep on new film Eddington

November 9, 2023 by EJ Moreno

New details have emerged about what Ari Aster is cooking up next, and it seems Eddington is going to be another trip down his dark mind.

In what is being described as a ‘western-noir dark ensemble comedy,’ Eddington is the next collaboration from Aster and his new muse, Joaquin Phoenix. The pair have recently been spotted in New Mexico doing some location scouting.

Per World of Reel, Eddington follows “a couple (Lindsay and Marc) driving through New Mexico, on their way to Los Angeles, who run out of gas just outside of small town Eddington, New Mexico. Lindsay and Marc decide to enter the town for help. They are, at first, greeted very warmly, but as nightfall comes, the picturesque setting soon turns into a nightmare.” Little else is known, but reports say it will occur during the pandemic.

As for the cast, it was reported that Pedro Pascal got an offer to co-star in the film, though neither he nor Phoenix would play members of the couple. The two lead roles have yet to be cast.

Filming was set to begin in late summer/early fall, but the SAG-AFTRA strikes had put production on pause. Aster and crew are aiming for a 2024 shoot date.
