Michael Fassbender has criticised the Assassin’s Creed movie, saying that it took itself “too seriously”.
It’s fair to say that last year’s Assassin’s Creed wasn’t the success that those involved were looking for. The movie didn’t win over critics and audiences weren’t exactly taken with it either.
Those who were hoping that the movie would mark the first truly lauded video game adaptation were sorely disappointed. And it turns out that Fassbender wasn’t particularly pleased himself, criticising the film in an interview with Movie’n’co (via The Playlist).
“For sure, it wasn’t ideal. I think we missed an opportunity there a little bit. So we’ll wait and see what Ubisoft are coming up with. But right now I don’t know,” Fassbender said. “I would make it more entertaining, that’s really the main note. The feeling of the film, I think it took itself too seriously and I would get to the action a lot quicker. I think there’s three beginnings of the film, which is a mistake.”
Unfortunately, for fans of the game franchise, it would seem unlikely that Fassbender and co will have a chance to rectify the mistakes identified.
