Attack the Block sequel talks have taken place with John Boyega, says director Joe Cornish

June 18, 2020 by Liam Waddington

For years, there has been speculation on whether audiences will get to see a sequel to 2011’s sci-fi action film Attack the Block, and now, director Joe Cornish has offered an exciting update on the potential follow-up.

In a recent interview on the Script Apart podcast, Cornish revealed he had discussions with lead John Boyega about a sequel a couple of months ago and they have some ideas on how to approach the project if it was to happen.

“We’ve got ideas,” Cornish said. “I met with John a couple of months ago to talk about it. We’ve always had ideas after the first one. But obviously, we’ve both been busy doing different things.”

Although talks have taken place between the director and the lead actor who are both excited about continuing this story, there is no confirmation on whether a sequel will be entering production.

Attack the Block centres on a teenage street gang who must band together with their unlikely neighbours to defend the estate in South London from a sudden alien invasion. The film includes a cast of John Boyega (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), Jodie Whittaker (Doctor Who), and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz).
