Aubrey Plaza joins Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis

August 23, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Francis Ford Coppola’s independently financed $100M passion-project Megalopolis had already assembled quite the cast, and now he has assured it becomes a must-see by adding Aubrey Plaza to the ensemble.

Sources close to Deadline revealed that the Ingrid Goes West actor would be joining Adam Driver (Paterson), Forest Whitaker (The Last King of Scotland), Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Jon Voight (Midnight Cowboy) and Laurence Fishburne (Apocalypse Now) in the epic, with Plaza seemingly confirming the news via her Twitter account.

The 20 years in the making Megalopolis is the story of an architect who wants to rebuild New York City as a utopia following a devastating disaster. Coppola said in a previous interview that “This story takes place in a new Rome, a Roman epic sent in modern times. The time set is not a specific year in modern New York, it’s an impression of modern New York, which I call New Rome. The concept of the film is a Roman epic, in the traditional Cecile B. DeMille or Ben-Hur way, but told as a modern counterpart focusing on America… It’s based on The Catiline Conspiracy, which comes to us from ancient Rome. This was a famous duel between a patrician, Catiline, and the famous Cicero.”

Plaza, who shot to fame as April Ludgate in NBC’s Parks and Recreation is coming off the back of some career best notices for Emily the Criminal (read our ★★★★ review here), and will be seen next alongside Jason Statham in Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre.
