Avengers 4 to start shooting in two weeks, will be “distinctly different” to Avengers: Infinity War

July 26, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having originally announced the titles of Avengers 3 and Avengers 4 as Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 and Part 2, Marvel seemingly altered its plans for the two-part superhero epic by dropping the subtitle for the latter, instead referring to it as the Untitled Avengers Movie.

It’s expected that the Thanos storyline will still span the two films (Zoe Saldana may have even let slip the title of Avengers 4 as Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet), but speaking to Comic Book at the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, co-director Joe Russo has said that the two movies will be “distinctly different.”

“It’s important for both movies to be distinctly different,” said Russo. “It’s important for them to have different tones, and different narratives, and different surprises for the audience. We’ve worked really hard with [writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley] at ensuring that the films are tonally different and structurally different.”

Russo also revealed that production on Avengers 4 will get underway in August, adding that: “It’s crazy man, we just wrapped the first movie a week ago and I start shooting the second one in two weeks. It’s a crazy schedule.”

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 in the UK and May 4th 2018 in the US and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket, Kraglin), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Winston Duke (M’Baku) and Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
