Avengers: Endgame smashes first-day pre-sale records in just 6 hours

April 4, 2019 by Gary Collinson

The internet went into meltdown earlier this week, with movie theater websites crashing left, right and centre around the world as tickets for this month’s hugely-anticipated Avengers: Endgame went on sale.

The film is tracking an unprecedented global opening of around $840 million (some $200 million more than the previous record holder Avengers: Infinity War), and if first day sales are any indication, it may well just achieve that astronomical figure:

As reported above in the tweet shared by the Russo brothers, Endgame took just six hours to smash the previous record North American pre-sales set by J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and all signs are pointing towards the Marvel sequel becoming the first movie to break $300 million in its domestic opening weekend.

Fandango’s top five pre-sale titles also makes for interesting reading, particularly for Disney’s accounting department:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Avengers: Endgame stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Evangeline Lilly (The Wasp), Letitia Wright (Shuri), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Jon Favreau (Happy Hogan), Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) and Frank Grillo (Crossbones), as well as Hiroyuki Sanada (The Wolverine) and Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why).
