Baldur’s Gate TV series coming from HBO and Craig Mazin

February 6, 2026 by Ricky Church

HBO has got its hands on another video game property as it, Hasbro Entertainment and The Last of Us series co-creator Craig Mazin are developing Baldur’s Gate into a new fantasy TV series.

The Baldur’s Gate video games are set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons with 2023’s Baldur’s Gate III hailed as one of the most impressive RPGs ever made due to its gameplay, graphics, story and amount of control the player has over their character and the world. Developed by Larian Studios, Baldur’s Gate III became a groundbreaking success that earned several awards at various ceremonies.

The third game saw the player and their main party members prevent a powerful cult from using parasites to control peoples minds, searching across the land for a cure for themselves before it is too late. Rather than being a straight adaptation of the game like The Last of Us was, HBO and Mazin are taking a different track with Baldur’s Gate as the series “will be a continuation to the games, telling a story that takes place immediately after the events of Baldur’s Gate III, as the characters — old and new — are dealing with the ramifications of the events in the third game.”

“After putting nearly 1000 hours into the incredible world of Baldur’s Gate III, it is a dream come true to be able to continue the story that Larian and Wizards of The Coast created,” Mazin said. “I am a devoted fan of D&D and the brilliant way that Swen Vincke and his gifted team adapted it. I can’t wait to help bring Baldur’s Gate and all of its incredible characters to life with as much respect and love as we can, and I’m deeply grateful to Gabe Marano and his team at Hasbro for entrusting me with this incredibly important property.”

Mazin will write and showrun the series while also serving as an executive producer. Alongside him will be Jacqueline Lesko, Cecil O’Connor and Hasbro Entertainment’s Gabriel Marano as executive producers while Wizard of the Coast’s Head of Story Chris Perkins will be a consultant to the team.

“The fans have been eagerly awaiting an adaptation of Baldur’s Gate, and we could not ask for better partners than HBO and the incomparable Craig Mazin to build this world with,” said Marano.

“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Craig Mazin on Baldur’s Gate,” said Francesca Orsi, EVP, Head of HBO Drama Programming. “His deep and long-standing passion for the source material paired with his remarkable talent for building immersive worlds filled with rich, compelling characters promises groundbreaking results.”

It will still be a long while before development and production on Baldur’s Gate can properly begin as Mazin is currently working on the third and possibly final season of The Last of Us which will begin filming in Vancouver in the near future.

What do you think of the Baldur’s Gate series? Are you excited to hear Mazin is part of it? Where do you think it will go after Baldur’s Gate III? Let us know on our socials at @FlickeringMyth…
