BBC reviving Porridge with new pilot centred on Fletcher’s grandson

November 16, 2015 by Gary Collinson

The BBC is set to revive the classic British sitcom Porridge, having commissioned original show creators Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais to pen a new pilot.

“We were asked by the BBC to do a revival and decided to set it right up to date,” states La Frenais. “It will be set in a modern prison while Slade was of course Victorian.”

The remake will follow Norman Stanley Fletcher’s (Ronnie Barker) computer hacker grandson, with La Frenais adding that “He’s called Fletch too and has what I would call attitude.”

Porridge ran for 21 episodes across three series between 1974 and 1977, and was followed by the shortlived spinoff Going Straight, which saw Fletcher trying to become an honest member of society after his release from prison.
